Privacy Policy
Garita · Effective November 1, 2026 · Español
Garita shows U.S.–Mexico border wait times. It is built to work without knowing who you are. There are no accounts, and Garita never sells your data.
Your location
If you allow it, Garita uses your location on your phone to show you on the map, work out your drive or walking time to each border line (using Apple Maps), and, when you tap Start Timer, notice when you have crossed so it can measure your real wait. Your location and the path you drive are processed on your phone. Garita does not send them to us or to anyone else.
Alerts
Wait alerts (“tell me when San Ysidro is under 45 minutes”) and SENTRI interview alerts are kept on your phone. To deliver them within a few minutes, Garita also sends your alert settings to Garita’s alert server, together with a random install ID, your phone’s notification token, and your language. The server checks CBP’s public feeds every few minutes and sends the notification through Apple. It never receives your name, Apple ID, email, or location. When you remove your last alert, the server deletes everything it kept for your phone. If the server can’t be reached, your phone checks CBP’s feeds on its own, while the app is open and in the background as often as iOS allows.
SENTRI interview times
To show open SENTRI interview times, Garita reads CBP’s public appointment scheduler, the same one its website uses. Garita never signs in to your Trusted Traveler account and never sees your application. You book any interview yourself on CBP’s website.
Wait-time reports you choose to share
When you share a report, Garita sends only: the crossing, the lane, the number of minutes (if any), a status such as “Slow”, and the time. Reports are stored in Apple’s iCloud public database so other Garita users can read them. Apple attaches an anonymous iCloud identifier to each record. Garita does not see your name, Apple ID, phone number or email, and reports are never tied to your location history. Reports are shown for a few hours and then stop appearing in the app.
The in-line timer and “people in line”
While your in-line timer runs, and only if you are signed in to iCloud, Garita adds one anonymous entry to the same iCloud public database: the crossing, the lane, the time, and how far back from the inspection booths you were when you joined the line (for example, “2.3 km”). That distance is worked out on your phone; no map coordinates, name or contact details are sent. Other Garita users see only totals, such as “3 other Garita users in this line”, and where recent users joined the line, so Garita can show where the line ends. Your entry is removed when you tap I’m Across, stop the timer, or after six hours, and it stops counting after a few hours in any case. The location trail Garita uses to notice when you cross stays on your phone.
Waves, Line Trivia and My Trips
On the in-line screen you can wave to your line and play Line Trivia. A wave sends only the crossing, the lane and the time. A trivia answer sends only the crossing, the lane, which ten-minute round it was and whether the answer was right, so the app can show how each lane is doing. Both go to the same iCloud public database without your name or contact details, and they stop showing after a few hours. My Trips (your crossing history and badges) and the crossings and lane you share with Garita on Apple Watch stay on your own devices; Garita does not upload them.
Advertising
Garita shows no ads and contains no advertising or analytics code. If that ever changes, this policy will say so first.

Cambios y contacto
